This course offers an introduction to perspectives on the social, organisational, and economic processes contributing to innovation within new media, information and knowledge systems. The new media and advanced information and communication technologies are being developed and applied within increasingly complex local and global innovation systems. The course covers theoretical perspectives on the social and economic transformations that are accompanying the spread of the new media and the Internet. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of contending perspectives and will understand some of the key issues that are of concern to policy-makers, business leaders, and citizens and consumers.
